Profiles havo/vwo

In the upper classes of HAVO or VWO of secondary education, your child chooses a profile. A profile is a combination of subjects within a certain topic. This lends a direction to the type of further study your child can choose. The Wereldschool offers the following profiles:

  • Natural and Technical Sciences
  • Natural and Health Sciences
  • Economics and Society
  • Culture en Society (at the Wereldschool, this profile focuses mainly on languages and social studies).

For an oversight of the required subjects and optional subjects of each profile, download the overview. The Wereldschool would be pleased to advise you about the best subject choice.

Profile Choice

When registering for HAVO or VWO class 4, your child is required to choose a profile. It is important to make the right choice, which can be tough especially when choosing from abroad. For some further study courses, it is recommendable or even required to have taken subjects from a certain profile. In order to assist your child in their choice, the Wereldschool offers ‘Information Profile Choice’ in class 3.

Profile Project

When your child is looking to complete a HAVO or VWO exam, they are required to finish a profile project as well. They will independently complete a research project. Your child completes a project about a topic befitting one of the subjects in their chosen profile.

The profile project is a separate subject which needs to be ordered by the parent from the Wereldschool. Your child will receive a manual, similarly to other subjects, which describes how they are to complete the project. Your child is then matched to a Wereldschool teacher, who is qualified for the subject.

The final grading of the profile project will be conducted by DUO. Your child will send their final profile project to DUO before 1 May of the year in which they are doing their final examination. Your child will also be required to do an oral poster presentation.

Another mandatory part of the state examination is the orientation on studying and profession. This part takes the form of a workbook in the manual of the profile project, and will guided by the same teacher.
